Switzerland Tourism exists since ancient times. The Swiss country has fascinated travelers from the rest of Europe and the Americas for decades.

It is not only for its high snowy mountains and ski resorts, but also for its springs and summers with lovely towns, many gardens and lots of activities.

It is indeed a multifaceted destination providing the perfect European vacations for all members of the family. Here are some of the top attractions in Switzerland.

The Capital of Switzerland is the number one charming city in the country. It is located on a peninsula on the River Aare. It has cobbled streets lined with sandstone buildings that have changed very little through the many centuries

The old town of Bern is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, thanks in part to its four miles of arcades, which the locals refer to as “Lauben,” making it the longest weather-sheltered shopping promenade in Europe.

Zurich my favorite town in Switzerland

Zurich my favorite town in Switzerland

We have visiting Zurich since the early 1960s when we first discovered it with the kids and even grandma. From Zurich you get a glimpse of the marvelous snowcapped Alps.

The downtown of Zurich is unique; all kind of tourist recreational attractions, museums and shopping. You will need a special budget to shop on Bahnhofstrasse, the street with the most expensive shops in the country and perhaps in all Europe.

Go sailing on the lake from the very heart of the city to the little towns on its shores. Go hiking 0n the Uetliberg Mountain.

Zurich is in the center of any European Journey and accessible by train from everywhere; and of course by air, being Kloten International Airport a main hub in the center of the continent.

Located east of Zurich and accessible by road or train, Lake Lucerne and the city bearing its name is for many the soul of Switzerland. The postcard perfect views of the Alps are awe inspiring.

Downtown Lucerne is car-free; the medieval bridge in the center of town is one of the oldest covered bridges in Europe. You’ll find many frescoes adorning the brick houses. But modernity compliments the old and this town has a reputation for innovative design.

The Culture and Convention Center, designed by leading French architect Jean Nouvel, is one the architectural highlights of the town.

And above all this, enjoy a ride on Lake Lucerne on one of the steamboats and stop on one of many of the adjacent towns.
