Luxembourg Tourism
The world’s only Grand Duchy

Luxembourg Tourism is a real treat to the tourist. This is a tiny European Country bordered by Germany, Belgium and France. It is mostly a rural country with the Moselle river valley and the Mullerthal rocky region.

The Capital of Luxembourg bears its same name Luxembourg City known for its medieval old town. This is the world’s only grand duchy ruled by a grand duke.

Together with Belgium and the Netherlands they forma group called Benelux Countries. Here are my favorite attractions.

  • Grund

This picturesque neighborhood is located deep into the gorge. Many stone houses are built on the face of the rocks.

Visit a 15th century bridge, ancient fortifications and terraced gardens and vineyards; a miniature gold course and a miniature train.

  • The Bock Casemates

This UNESCO Heritage site is a massive rock called Le Bock forming outside of the Haute Ville. Dating to the Roma Empire it features a vast network of tunnels called the Casemates where people could hide during wars and conquests.

The Bock Casemates are part of Luxembourg City's Old Fortifications and an excellent example of military architecture spanning several centuries. A natural fortification utilized to fend off invaders for centuries.

Today visitors can tour this underground labyrinth, which once held facilities for equipment, horses, workshops, kitchens, bakeries and slaughterhouses, in addition to barracks that could house up to 1,200 soldiers during wartime.

This is the official residence of the Grand Duke. It is located in the center of Luxembourg City and was built between 1572 and 1574 and is a perfect example of Spanish Renaissance architecture.

This is one top attraction and you may watch the renowned Luxembourg military perform ceremonial duties on the grounds. It is open to the public during summer.

This market comes alive every Wednesday and Saturday. The fresh fruit is spilled over the market stalls, as well as all kind of vegetables and flowers; here you’ll find handmade crafts and other things to buy.

Is an opportunity to feel Luxembourg’s everyday life.

Vianden Castle

It is one of the prettiest residences of the Gothic and Romanesque periods, perched on a rock facing the nearby town of Vianden.

It dates back to the 10th century, while the actual Romanesque building dates to the 11th and 14th centuries.

  • The Grand Duke’s Official Birthday
    Celebration in Luxembourg City

The monarch’s birthday on June 23 is the single biggest celebration of the year, and the best day to be in Luxembourg. It is also two days after the longest daylight of the year, so the fireworks that begin with nightfall are, essentially, a midnight interruption to a very long, very jubilant party.
