Greece Tourism
Attracting Millions to its Shores

Greece tourism was one of my main areas of expertise when I operated my tour operation company. I used to travel to Greece several times a year and it wasn’t work for me.

It was real pleasure. I love everything Greek, the food the language and the lovely people. I remember walking and riding taxis in Athens feeling completely at home.

The Acropolis with the Parthenon over the
Capital City Athens

Athens the capital of Greece

This fascinating city, main focus of Greece Tourism, is located in the valley of Attica, bound by Mount Aegaleo in the west, Mount Parnitha in the north, Mount Penteli in the northeast, Mount Hymettus in the east, and the Saronic Gulf in the southwest.

Named after the Goddess Athena it is a symbol of democracy, freedom and art, the cradle of the conscience of the civilized wsorld.

• The Acropolis is Athens main landmark and manages the town from atop the hill. Its main building is the Parthenon, visited by thousands of tourist every year. Besides the Acropolis Greece, there are many attractions in Athens:

• The Olympic Stadium located in the area of Massouri in Athens, the stadium was originally designed in 1979 and built in 1980–1982. It was extensively renovated in time for the 2004 Summer Olympics, including a roof designed by Santiago Calatrava that was added atop the sidelines.

More on Athens

• Plaka is the old area on top of the hill walking up from Syntagma Square. It is a long and narrow street full of shops, restaurants and bars. Walking through Plaka is one of Athens’ delights.

• Lycabettus Hill - Especially on a hot day take the easy way up Lycabettus Hill and escape the heat and, if you're lucky, some of the tourist crowds. The view of Athens is spectacular.

• Syntagma Square also "Constitution Square", this is the heart of Athens in many ways. It's a large, open square which often hosts holiday events; it's the location of several of Athens' most renowned luxury hotels. Ermou Street, a pedestrian mall, provides access to some of Athens' better upscale shopping.

• National Archaeological Museum - This extensive collection is housed in the heart of Athens

• Cape Sounion and the Temple of Poseidon - A great afternoon trip from Athens, this is one of those spots that is as much a favorite with the locals as it is with the tourists.

• Walking Athens at Night - Athens Greece is one of the safest capital cities in the entire world. So get out and enjoy the city and its shops that open until late.

Greece Tourism

Also called Salonika is the capital of the Greek region of Macedonia in the north. It is the second city of Greece and one of the oldest and most historical cities in Europe.

It history goes back to 300 BC on an ancient site dating much back to 2,300 BC. It was founded by Cassaander, King of Macedon, after his wife Thessalonica, the sister of Alexander the Great.

Today Thessaloniki Greece is an important port city located on the shores of the Thermaikos Gulf. It is also an active center of culture and commerce not only for Greece but also for the whole Balkan Peninsula.

Recently Thessaloniki has become the seat of European Center for the Development of Vocational Training, known as CEDEFOP; and the Black Sea Trade and Development Bank headquarters.

The city is composed of two sectors, the modern sector and the old city. The old city is where most of the attractions are. In the old city it will be mostly Byzantine churches and buildings that you are looking for.

They are what Thessaloniki is famous for. You can get glimpses of “Old Salonika” in the walled Kastra quarter of the city, on the hillside beyond the modern grid of streets. The city’s landmark is the White Tower, which also houses a Byzantine museum.

Thessaloniki is also known for its exceptional nightlife with the famous Ladadika quarter. Here you will find bars and clubs playing great music as well as restaurants and ouzeris among the best in Greece

The ruins of the ancient city of Olympia in Greece

It is an ancient city located on the Peloponnesus peninsula, about 310 km west of Athens. It is famous for being the site of the original Olympic Games in classical times.

It is one of the most attractive sites in Greece. It is surrounded by a valley of wild olive trees besides the rivers of Alpheus, the largest in the Peloponnese and Khladios.

The great temple columns lie half buried. The ground is perfect for picnics, but offers little impression of its ancient grandeur.

The beautiful and popular Island of Mykonos

It is an Island of the Cyclades Group located in the middle of the Aegean Sea near Paros and Santorini. It attracts mainly young people who come to enjoy the vast nightlife comparable to Ibiza in Spain or Ayia Napa in Cyprus.

Its largest town is Mykonos also known as Chora. It is a picturesque Cycladic capital with whitewashed houses and blue domed churches.

Mykonos is the most renowned of the Greek Islands and attracts thousands of tourists a year arriving for a long stay or visiting in one of the 3, 4 or 7 days cruises that constantly visit the islands.

Santorini is the most beautiful of the Greek Islands

Greece tourism

Santorini is definitely one of the most beautiful and spectacular islands in the Aegean Sea. It is a member of the Cycladic group of islands, located between Ios and Anafi islands. It is by far one of Europe’s top tourist spots.

This is an island of incredible contrasts. You may see the white and blue domed houses like falling from the hill near Thira, the capital, but once inside town the streets are heavily developed with costly cafes, restaurants and high fashion shops and boutiques.

This is what I mean when I said contrasts. Because of the amazing beauty of Santorini, many singers and artist have chosen the island as a background for their videos and movies.

Greece Tourism is very important to Greece economy.
