Ecuador Tourism is mainly for the Galapagos Islands, although this South American country has many attractions to show, of which we are going to mention a few.

Ecuador is a land with many natural wonders, tropical rainforests, volcanoes and a rich Spanish colonial history which you may see in the beautiful buildings throughout the country.

This is an archipelago of volcanic islands located in the Pacific Ocean across the shores of mainland Ecuador at a distance of 1000 km.

The Galápagos are world renowned for its unique ecosystem which was the inspiration for Charles Darwin’s Theory of Natural Selection. Sea lions, penguins, giant tortoises, marine iguanas and different bird species can all be seen and approached. Strict controls on tourist access are maintained in an effort to protect the natural habitats and all visitors must be accompanied by a national park-certified naturalist tour guide.

As a tourist to Ecuador, you will probably want to buy some artisanries from local artists. No better place than the small town of Otavalo and its colorful market.

They feature local arts, crafts and clothing. The city is known the world over for the handiwork of its indigenous people, the Otavalos. Every Saturday, in the city’s Plaza de Ponchos, a broad array of jewelry, wood and stone carvings and woven clothing are offered for sale.

Located in the heart of Quito, the Church of the Society of Jesus, or “La Iglesia de la Compañía de Jesús,” is perhaps the best known of the capital’s famed cathedrals.

\it was built in early 17th century and it is considered a great example of Baroque architecture in the New World. The amount of gold used on the central nave is awe inspiring.

This is the second tallest summit in Ecuador with a height of 5,897 meters. This volcano has one of the few equatorial glaciers in the world, which starts at the height of 5,000 meters. You may see the snow-covered peak from the capital city of Quito.

It is known as one of the highest active volcanoes in the world, with more than 50 eruptions since 1738. Nowadays it is limited to a few steam fumaroles.

Tena Ecuador

Located on the Amazon region, this is a starting point for Amazon jungle adventure trips. The town was founded by missionaries and a cinnamon industry is what made the town survive.

The Tena River joins with the Masahualli River, and then with the Napo River, a tributary of the Amazon. Adventure travelers think of Tena as one of the best places in the world for whitewater kayaking and rafting.

In English the “Devil’s Nose,” is the name given to the train line between the towns of Sibambe and Alausi. The track gets its name from the great number of casualties that it took to complete the train line.

This is one of the most astounding engineering projects ever undertaken in the mountainous Andes. This stretch of track offers visitors amazing panoramic views of the countryside. A series of switchbacks slowly takes the train up a steep ascent to Alausi.

This popular town called Montañita is located in Ecuador’s southern coastal region, with amazing scenic views and famous beach resorts, including Montañita.

It was once a sleepy fishing village until the International Surfing community discovered this are with splendid surfing conditions.

This town is also known for its nightlife, with nightclubs, bars, cafes and restaurants which entertain locals as well as visitors.

Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve

Established in 1979, it is the real place for those trying to combine the scenery with the viewing of wildlife. The reserve is home to more than 15 species of monkeys, tapirs, caimans and anacondas as well as 500 species of birds and butterflies, plus lots of other animals and insects.

It is located in the Andean foothills of Orellana Province, it is the second largest of Ecuador’s national parks and reserves.

Catedral Nueva

Cuenca a beautiful colonial city is the third largest in Ecuador, popular for a year-round delightful climate. Its new cathedral, or Catedral Nueva is the city’s #1 landmark.

Its construction began in the late 19th century and continued for almost a century. The façade is made of alabaster and marble. Its domes are remarkable each one covered with blue glazed tile imported from Czechoslovakia.

San Francisco Church

Located in Quito’s Old Town district, this is a church and monastery that includes a few masterpieces, such as a sculpture of a winged Holy Virgin. Its construction began in the middle of the 16th century on land where the palace of Incan ruler Atahualpa once stood.

Ecuador Flag Description

The national flag of Ecuador, which consists of horizontal bands of yellow, blue and red, was first adopted by law in 1835 and later on 26 September 1860. The design of the flag is very similar to those of Colombia and Venezuela, which are also former constituent territories of Gran Colombia.
