Austria Tourism is an important part of the economy of the German speaking country located in Central Europe. This landlocked country is known for its architecture, imperial history and music.

The capital of Austria, Vienna on the banks of the Danube River, features many palaces and monuments. Other important cities in Austria are Graz, Innsbruck and Salzburg among others. It has borders with Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Czech Republic, Slovenia, Hungary, Slovakia and Liechtenstein.

Hofburg Imperial Palace

This imperial palace located in Vienna is the official residence of the President of Austria. In the past it was the Habsburg’s principal winter residence.

During the periods of 1438 to 1583 and 1612 to 1806 it was the seat of emperors and kings of the Holy Roman Empire and later the seat of the Emperor of Austria until 1918.

This spectacular palace has had additions since1275 resulting in different architectural styles like Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, Rococo, and Classicism.

A visit to this 2,600 room palace includes a visit to the Imperial Silver collection, the Sisi Museum focusing on Empress Elisabeth, and the rooms once occupied by Emperor Franz Joseph and his wife.

Schonbrunn Palace

This palace is a must on any visit to Vienna. Sometimes compared to Versailles, this 1,441 room palace was built between 1696 and 1712, ordered by Emperor Leopold I, and turned as the favorite summer palace by Maria Theresa.

The palace offers many attractions on its premises like the oldest zoo in the world, the Privy Garden and a maze.

Mozart's Salzburg

Salzburg is Mozart's birthplace and you’ll find his house on 9 Getreidegasse. Now it is a full time museum with mementos, instruments and portraits.

Mozart Square with its large monument to the city's favorite son, is located nearby. Salzburg also hosts a number of music festivals in honor of the composer, including Mozart Week and the six-week long Salzburg Festival.


This is a small village in the Salzkammergut region, famous for its salt production. Today it is a beautiful baroque village after many years of creating wealth due to the production of salt.

Also visit the Hörnerwerk cavern’s subterranean salt lake and see the prehistoric man preserved in salt. It is by far one of the most unique places in Austria.

Innsbruck Altstadt

Located on the striking Alpine mountain range, Innsbruck offers amazing landscapes and an important urban center.

Altstadt, the medieval town of Innsbruck, invites the visitor to its unique architecture and many shops.

While you are strolling the streets of the Altstadt visit the Golden Roof, one of the city’s most important landmarks. This house was constructed for the Holy Emperor Maximilian I, and was decorated with copper tiles creating the appearance that it is pure gold.

This ski resort is located in Tyrol and is world renowned for its ski terrain for those adventurers among us.

This vast landscape welcomes the winter ski crowd as well as the summer mountaineers, who come to trek the landscape each year. If you are looking for a good time, St Anton is the place to be.

Grossglockner Alpine Road

This is a panoramic road leading up to the Kaiser Franz Josephs Höhe Visitor Center. From here you get a fabulous view of Austria’s highest mountain.

This toll road is open from beginning of May to the end of October, providing an unsurpassed experience.

The Spanish Riding School, Vienna

Here the visitor will meet the Lipizzaner horses introduced into Austria from Spain in 1562 by Emperor Maximilian II.

Today the Spanish Riding School is the only place where the Classical style of riding preferred by aristocracy is still practiced. A visit to the famous equestrian displays in the Baroque Winter Riding School is a must when in Vienna.

Around 750 AD, Bishop Modestus established this church in southern Austria’s region of Carinthia. From this church the surrounding villages were Christianized. The twin towered church of today was built on the 15th century on the foundations of the Roman Basilica and remodeled during the Renaissance and Baroque periods.

Located in the middle of the Capital of Austria, this majestic architectural piece of art is probably one of the most famous opera houses in the world.

Melk Abbey

Located on a high cliff overlooking the Danube River is this monastery, one of the most renowned in the world.

In 1089 Leopold II gave this, his castle, to the monks, which transformed it into a learning and tranquility center.

The impressive spiritual center has become one of the greatest examples of Baroque architecture and the flourishing musical and liberal arts of its time.

Hohensalzburg Castle

Being the pride of Salzburg this is one of the best preserved medieval castles in Europe.

Located at the top of Festungsberg Mountain, this fortress towers over the city of Salzburg making an inseparable part of the city’s skyline. This is the home of the “Salzburg Bull”, an organ with more than two hundred pipes. Hohensalzburg Castle is one of the top tourist attractions in Austria.
